Position Description

Program Specialist Commitment: Facilitate during and after school programs as well as occasional summer and weekend events at schools in the Des Moines metro and suburbs. Provide leadership to the development and maintenance of quality scouting programs located in under-served communities in accordance with the Boy Scouts of America’s Mission Statement.  Work with elementary students, kindergarten-5th grade.

Job Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • At Least 21 years of age.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) (not required).
  • Teaching/Education background (not required).
  • CPR/First Aid Certified (not required).

Job Information

  • 15-20 hours per week.
  • 2-3 Weekdays (during school/after school hours).
  • Occasional evenings/weekends.
  • Participate in outdoor activities.
  • Wages- $16-18 per hour.

Essential Functions:

  • Able to work required schedules.
  • Able to use a computer for online training and other data input task (Microsoft Office).
  • Ensure the delivery of quality programs to all scouting units/members.

Special Responsibilities

  • Follow the prescribed curriculum lesson plans.
  • Complete Youth Protection Training, Leader-specific training, and other advanced training deemed necessary for assigned areas of responsibility deemed appropriate by Mid-Iowa Council, Boy Scouts of America.
  • Conduct outdoor experiences, cultural activities, and other educations/positive life building experiences for Scouts members and leaders.
  • Participate in schedule or called meetings.
